Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, is a non psychoactive compound in hemp that has been found to contain many healing properties. Unlike Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not give the sensation of "feeling high".
In the last few decades, CBD studies have found it's ability to aid in alleviating insomnia, acne, muscle tension, premenstrual symptoms, chronic pain, depression, epilepsy, anxiety, cancer related symptoms and more!
Endocannabinoids, the natural cannabis style molecules produced by the human body, were discovered by scientists in the 1990's. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) consists of 3 parts that work in harmony to keep our bodies in a state of homeostasis.
Our bodies are constantly working to cool ourselves when we're too hot, let us know when to eat or sleep and telling us how we're feeling depending on hormone levels. These signals are sent by cannabinoid receptors commonly known as CB1 and CB2.
CB1 covers the central nervous system which includes the brain and spinal cord nerves. CB2 is the peripheral nervous system, such as the digestive system and immune system. These receptors work in the ECS by helping regulate things such as pleasure, pain, digestion, mood, sleep, fertility, inflammation, immune function, memory, and motor control. When your body has the amount of cannabinoids that it needs, you feel better because your body achieves homeostasis. If there is a deficiency causing your ECS to not work properly, many problems can arise.
As scientific research has been unveiling the long list of benefits of cannabinoids and the ECS, not everyone is able to produce enough cannabinoids on their own. There has been discovery of several conditions that appear to be related to the dysregulation of the system. Clinical endocannabinoid deficiency (CECD) is not a disease, but rather an umbrella term for this irregularity. CECD has been found in conditions such as migraines, irritable bowel system (IBS), depression and fibromyalgia just to name a few.
CBD has been used both internally and topically by hundreds of thousands of people. It has helped many people overcome opioid addiction, anxiety, depression, insomnia, muscle fatigue, acne and even epilepsy in both children and adults.
There is no better time than now to familiarize yourself with all the benefits that CBD has to offer! As always be sure to consult your physician before self-medicating.
